It s a great base for exploring Stanage Edge, a gritstone escarpment just north of the village that stretches for almost 4 miles and is famous as a location for climbing. The many moorland and fell trails that start from the edge of the village also offer wonderful routes for running, cycling, and hiking. The village has a rich and interesting history; in the village churchyard visitors can see the reputed grave of Little John, one of Robin Hood s Merry Men. Mill Retreat is a Grade II listed building that was built c.1750 as a worker s cottage for the mill across the road. Enter the open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with an entrance area offering space to store coats and boots. There are many original antique postcards and maps on the wall of the property, adding to the charm. The kitchen offers an electric oven and gas hob, washer/dryer, fridge, dishwasher, breakfast bar, and a Belfast sink with views over the surrounding gardens.
