No. 2 is the middle cottage of three attached coastguard cottages built by the Admiralty in 1903 and provides comfortable, practical, no frills accommodation in a simply glorious spot. There are two fine beaches on the doorstep, one shingle and one sand, both good for swimming and perfect for rock-pooling, beach art and family use. Walking is unsurpassed with the South Devon Coast Path at the bottom of the garden. This much loved cottage has been in the owners' family for over 60 years and a more tranquil and beautiful spot is hard to imagine.
Accommodation:
Glazed door that opens directly into a small kitchen. Well equipped with painted wood units, there is an electric ceramic hob, built-under electric oven, washing machine, microwave and large fridge/freezer. Adjacent WC. Large living room, bright and cheerful with rugs on the polished wood floor, two large sofas, a chair, new inset woodburner stove, flat screen wall mounted TV with Freesat, DVD and stereo CD/tape player. A solid fuel Rayburn (use is optional, for those familiar with Rayburns) provides background warmth, hot water and an extra cooking facility. There is a large dining table to seat up to 8 and a pretty dresser. Double bedroom with 4ft 6in bed, fitted cupboard and superb sea views with the sound of the sea breaking below to lull you to sleep! Further small bedroom with 4ft bed, hanging hooks and views to the rear of the cottage. Small, basic bathroom with bath, hand held shower, basin and WC. Second floor: A family bedroom which provides flexible sleeping arrangements with 3 ft bunk beds and a 4ft cabin bed. Cupboard on the landing provides hanging space.
Outside:
A fairly rough track leads from Lannacombe Beach to the coastguard cottages and the area surrounding the three cottages is reached by a gated driveway and is enclosed by low walls and hedging. The grounds are not divided between the cottages (one of which is residential), and the area in front of No.2 is for the use of the cottage itself. A large picnic table on the front lawn overlooks the sea. There is a raised area at the rear which provides a communal clothes line and sun loungers are kept in the 'washhouse' alongside this area. A gate on the edge of the grounds of the cottages allows access to a path down to Ivy Cove beach below.
Parking: Parking for two cars adjacent to the cottage. As this parking area is shared with 1 Ivy Cove consideration should be given to maintaining access. Further parking (chargeable) is available on Lannacombe beach but this can be restricted due to limited availability and there is strictly no overnight parking.
