Big Hill Cottage is a delightful, end terrace cottage set in the small hamlet of Newnes where the owners family have farmed for seven generations since 1840 near to the outskirts of Ellesmere town. The Newnes dates back to medieval times and gets its name from when King Edward II is said to have placed some new people on the property formerly occupied by displaced Welsh Rebels.
The origin of these people is unknown, but they were referred to as the 'neow-ones' (old English Neowe = new) hence the name Newnes. From the outset, the property oozes luxury with a delightful blend of charming features and is a perfect base for a couple’s getaway. As you enter the cottage you are greeted to a brightly decorated hallway, boasting a striking chandelier, before stepping in to a cosy sitting room with a woodburning-effect electric fire. Following this is an elegant snug, boasting further seating with a woodburning fire, perfect for some quiet reading. To the rear of the room, you will find a formal dining arrangement and a well-equipped kitchen, housing a stylish design. Follow the staircase to the first floor, where you will find two delightfully appointed bedrooms, each boasting double beds, ample storage and breath-taking views of the countryside. Completing the floor are two luxury bathrooms, complete with a bath with shower over, basin and WC. Outside, you will be able to enjoy a glass of wine, whilst sat in the private hot tub with overlooking views of the countryside or make the most of the morning sunshine on the front lawned area. The town of Ellesmere can be located within a mile of the property, where you will find a good selection of pubs, restaurants and shops, to ensure you have all the necessities required.
