With stunning views across Luce Bay the lodge is set in a peaceful coastal location with woodland to the rear; a footpath provides a short walk to the beach for seal watching and to enjoy all the other the sea-life. The Lodge provides luxury accommodation for a perfect romantic getaway in a cosy traditional gate lodge.
The lodge has been renovated and finished to the highest of standards with hardwood floors and doors throughout matching and retaining the original character of this listed building. The sitting room has an attractive open fire making this a cosy base from which to explore the South Rhins Peninsula with its superb beaches, which are within easy reach, together with coastal walks.
The lodge is in the grounds of 18th Century Ardwell House and guests have access to the estate grounds and gardens which are a popular attraction due to their exotic flora, walled garden, ponds and enchanting woodland walks. The estate is also able to offer guests fishing on the estate's loch which is stocked with rainbow trout.
There are numerous activities available in the area and two not to be missed are the Mull of Galloway lighthouse, which sits on top of 300-foot cliffs with views of Ireland and the Isle of Man and the world-famous Logan Botanical Garden. The garden, one of six open to the public in this small area, is of particular note due to the varied species and specimens supported due to the mild climate that the area has from the effect of the Atlantic Gulf Stream. The local villages of Sandhead, Portpatrick and Port William are all worth exploring with deserted sandy or pebble beaches making for an enjoyable day out. The bustling fishing village of Portpatrick is not to be missed with a good variety of places to eat most with outside seating overlooking the picturesque harbour and further afield Wigtown, Scotland's national Book Town is a must for book lovers.
The lodge makes for a wonderful holiday base either for relaxing in the cosy sitting room, enjoying the outside decking area in the beautiful garden or for getting out and about to enjoy the glorious scenery. A new path has been created meaning the Lodge is less than 200 yards' walk from the shore of Luce Bay and the Mull of Galloway coastal walk. The "back shore" has views looking over to Ireland, the shore with its cliffs and sandy bays such as Ardwell Bay is only three miles away. The quiet roads make it an ideal location for a country drive whilst for those wanting more strenuous activities the 7Stanes Mountain Bike Routes are also not far away in the Forestry Commission's Galloway Forest Park. If you live in a town you will be amazed by how bright the stars are on a clear night and you can enjoy them from the garden of the lodge whilst enjoying a glass of complimentary wine.
