A stone flagged entrance porch leads to an open plan living area, creating a convivial holiday atmosphere. Branching to the right is an elegant sitting room with wooden floors and an open fire, offering supreme warmth after a bracing moorland ramble. A TV/DVD and selection of books is provided for your entertainment – or simply relax in good company and chat the night away. This area boasts the quirky ‘witching post’ – folklore says it protects a property from passing witches! – and guests can have their names carved by the owner, on request – what a wonderful and permanent way to remember holiday memories and in turn be remembered. Off to to the left is a generous and well-equipped kitchen with dining area. Charming and practical, you’ll love using the Rayburn cooker for lazy breakfasts and to cook superb local fare. Granite work surfaces and a Belfast sink complete the look. When it’s time for bed, head upstairs to the first floor. There’s a charming double with brass bed and a twin bedroom – both rooms have en-suite shower rooms with a shower, basin and WC. Front-facing, they have equally lovely views of the village green. To the second floor is a demi-landing with two comfortable armchairs, a table and books – an ideal spot to read the kids’ bedtime stories or catch a quiet moment to yourself. Why not strike out on foot to either nearby Sleights or Grosmont village, travelling back via train to Egton. The historic fishing port of Whitby is a five minute drive. Here you’ll find lovely sandy beaches, the imposing Abbey ruins, Captain Cook Memorial Museum and plenty of old world charm. Be sure to sample the local fish and chips – they’re world-famous!
