Inside, the cottage is light and airy and wonderfully spacious. At its heart is a large, living/dining area, perfect for entertaining and socializing. The superb kitchen, with its whitewashed exposed beams, combines character with contemporary style, and is well-equipped for creating some memorable meals. Guests can enjoy a relaxed meal at the picnic-style dining table before retiring to the conservatory to admire the attractive garden. At the other end of the kitchen, a comfy leather armchair and sofa sit invitingly around a wood burner where younger guests can perhaps enjoy having their own space in which to watch TV. From here a door leads through to the elegant lounge, a wonderfully airy space enhanced by the attractive patio doors which allow light to flood in. With two large, comfortable sofas and the tasteful additions of the antique rocking chair and grandfather clock, this is a beautiful room in which to relax with a book or enjoy some conversation, and the inclusion of the upright piano may appeal to musically-inclined guests.

Heading upstairs, guests will discover the four beautiful bedrooms. The master bedroom is wonderfully spacious and light, with dual aspect windows overlooking the garden, and is tastefully decorated in soft, neutral tones to ensure a blissful night’s sleep. The second double room is welcoming and comfortable, and its pretty floral curtains beautifully frame the twin windows. The two twin rooms are crisp and fresh, with whitewashed walls and splashes of blue to reflect the coastal location. Also on this floor are the two immaculate bathrooms, one with a shower over bath and WC, the other with a large shower and WC.

The garden outside is simply stunning – a large, traditional cottage garden with an expanse of lawn, edged by attractive flower-filled borders. The charming patio has garden seating where guests to enjoy a drink in the sunshine with a view of the River Lerryn sparkling in the distance. Framed by mature trees, it offers a private oasis of calm. Fowey Cottage is a wonderfully idyllic place in which to unwind. Secluded and tranquil, it is ideal for a family seeking a peaceful spot yet within easy access of the beaches and attractions of South Cornwall.

The beautiful Fowey estuary is part of an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Polperro Heritage Coast. Surrounded on both banks by lush woodland, the river meanders gently to the coast where it joins the sea at the charming town of Fowey, creating a natural harbour. This harbour enabled the town to develop as a major port for many years, exporting the local tin, copper and iron, and importing goods from abroad, many of which were subject to pirate attack.

Today, the picturesque town of Fowey is a magnet for tourists, with its charming tumble of houses edging the estuary, beautiful beaches and pretty lanes full of independent shops to browse at your leisure. Renowned for its arts and crafts, there are also a number of galleries to explore, exhibiting glass, pottery, jewellery and fine art.

The cottage is well positioned to explore the many quaint villages around the estuary. Lerryn village sits on the picturesque Lerryn creek. Enjoy a stroll along the water’s edge before relaxing over a leisurely lunch in the local pub. The pretty village of Lostwithiel sits at the northern end of the estuary, and oozes charm, with its 14th-century bridge over the river and streets filled with antique and arts and crafts shops. Nearby Restormel Castle, a perfectly circular moat and bailey Norman castle, offers superb views across the river valley and is a lovely spot for a picnic. To the south, the pretty fishing village of Polruan sits on the South West Coastal Path and has a regular passenger ferry service across the estuary to Fowey

The unmissable Eden Project is just a 20-minute drive away. Explore the two giant Biomes where you can immerse yourself in the tropical heat of the rainforest or soak up the Mediterranean warmth. The tropical biome is home to a waterfall, a Malaysian House, as well as banana trees, cacao plants and hundreds of orchids. Watch out for lizards and birds around you and walk the Canopy walkway for amazing views of the Biome from the treetops. The Mediterranean Biome, in contrast, is hot and dry, filled with fragrant herbs, huge aloe versa, olive trees and vines. Outside the Biomes, there are extensive gardens to explore, with something for all ages to enjoy, from stunning floral displays to enchanting pathways and sculptures.
