The Centre for Alternative Technology is a short walk and explores green ideas and sustainable living with lots of hands on experiences for all ages. Tan y Coed forest provides lovely walks and plenty of mountain bike trails including Cli-mach X and Mach trails in the Dyfi forest. There is a lockable bike store. Within a half hour drive are Aberdovey, Dolgellau, Barmouth, Tywyn, Aberystwyth, Ynys Hir and Cader Idris mountain. Snowdon is just over an hour away.
The small market town of Machynlleth sits amid the rolling hills of Mid Wales. The streets of the town spread out from the 19th Century clock tower, and offer a good mix of specialist shops, pubs, and cafes, in addition to the regular street markets held every Wednesday. The town boasts two art galleries, and is home to the Museum of Modern Arts, Wales, which showcases the work of a variety of international artists, as well as staging concerts and lectures in its 400 seater auditorium. Just ten miles from the coast, Machynlleth is also ideally placed for taking advantage of superb walking, riding, fishing and rock climbing available in the area.
