Once the village smithy in its time, now sensitively converted into a family home, decorated throughout with paintings and ornaments, the Old Smithy takes you back to a time forgotten. The house has traditional thick stone walls, oak beams and flagstone floors, but is comfortable and homely, the perfect base for a family holiday in the Brecon Beacons.
The hidden gem here is the acre of country garden, with multiple seating and relaxing areas, benches and ample lawn space for children to run around and explore, this is a magical garden skirted by the River Honddu. Abergavenny is 20 minutes by car with its castle, shops and restaurants. The historic town of Hay on Wye, a famous literary haven, is 30 minutes away with numerous indendent second hand book shops and gift stores. Or venture further afield to Crickhowell, Brecon or Hereford, all within the hour. Nearby attractions include Llanthony valley has lots to offer. Cistercian Abbey which is just across the country lane. The crooked church at Cymyoy is well worth a look, as is the ancient Partrishow. The Llanthony Valley offers pony trekking in the National Park, Grange Trekking in Capel y Ffin offer treks for all abilities from March October. The ground floor entrance leads into the lounge with open fire, stone flagged floor, piano and selection of traditional games and many books. The kitchen/diner has plenty of room for 6, with a wooden breakfast table and bench, electric oven and hob and microwave. Upstairs you will find three bedrooms, 1 master double bedroom with basin, 1 twin and 1 twin with 2ft 6 beds. There is a family bathroom with bath and WC. There is an external shower room located in a separate building accessed via the garden with shower, WC and sink. Outside is an acre of garden with outdoor furniture and BBQ. There is ample parking. Bed linen, towels, electric and under floor and central heating included. The owners live in the attached Forge, which in no way encroaches on the privacy of the cottage or it s gardens. There is a shop and pub within walking distance. Need to know: SLEEPS 2 6: Three bedrooms: an oak beamed double, with basin, a twin with standard size single beds, plus small twin bedroom with 2ft 6 beds. All bed linen and towels are included. RELAXING: Large sitting room with open fire (logs included), traditional games, piano, lots of books, comfy seating for six. Please note The Old Smithy is 'off the beaten track' and has very patchy WiFi and no television. DINING: Well equipped farmhouse kitchen, electric oven, electric hob, microwave, toaster and welcome cake. Traditional farm house table with settle and wooden chairs. BATHING: Upstairs bathroom with toiletteries, towels, bath, basin, loo. A downstairs loo and outside shower, with a washing machine too. OUTSIDE: An acre of garden with fruit trees, several outdoor seating areas and a river passing by at the far end. A barbeque is available, as well as boules. PETS: 1 dog welcome.
