This lovely, Grade II listed thatched cottage dates back to the 17th century. It s situated close to the small village of Whitwell, on the south east of the island, and is famous for having the oldest pub on the island where you can enjoy homemade fare and real ales. This whole region is a wonderful walking area with a network of footpaths and trails that extend across the nearby downs to the coast. It s only a short drive to the coast with its small attractive coves, botanical gardens and seaside resort of Ventnor. Ventnor itself has a lovely beach, perfect for paddling, swimming and fishing. There is an attractive promenade with several places to eat, and a quay where small fishing boats come in laden with their catch of the day to sell. Further along, the coast brings you to the larger sandy beaches of Shanklin and Sandown. Entering the cottage on the ground floor you ll find a kitchen/diner with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine and pine table and chairs; an attractive lounge with plenty of seating and TV/DVD, a tiled bathroom with a hand held shower over the bath and WC; and a French door opening onto the pretty garden beyond. A cottage style staircase winds up from this room to four charming bedrooms two lovely double bedrooms and two single bedrooms plus a compact shower room with shower and WC. Carefully furnished offering attractive accommodation for its guests, the cottage has retained several of its original features including beamed ceilings, a flagstone floor in the kitchen, and lovely wooden floors upstairs. Outside there is a delightful garden with large lawn and garden room for visitors to relax and unwind. Garden furniture is provided so that al fresco dining can be enjoyed in the sunshine. The garden is fenced and gated with a stream meandering just beyond. There is off road parking to the side of the cottage for one to two cars.
