The immediate grounds have plenty to offer, from a picturesque 14th century chapel filled with myths and legends to a private mile stretch of fishing on the River Derwent, not to mention a fantastic selection of walking, cycling and bird watching opportunities. Rowlands Gill is less than half a mile away, offering a good range of shops, newsagents, restaurants and takeaways, while the nearest pub is located one mile away in Burnopfield. For a day out with a difference, experience the Beamish open air museum, which is set within 300 acres of County Durham countryside, or head to nearby Newcastle for some retail therapy.
