For a livelier day on the sand after sunbathing and swimming, Silecroft is also home to a horse trekking centre specialising in memorable coastal rides, just a short walk from your cottage, so you can easily take a gallop along the shore. The Cumbrian Heavy Horses are also based nearby and can be frequently seen trekking over Black Combe, which sits as a magnificent backdrop to Silecroft. A bracing 2-hour climb up Black Combe is rewarded with views reaching as far as Wales, Scotland and the Isle of Man. There's also a 9-hole links golf course nearby, whilst the village train station takes you to the West Coast Branch line for scenic day trips, allowing you to leave the car behind. Coniston Water, the third largest lake in the Lake District, is 30 minutes drive away and the beautiful Wasdale Head, lying under the shadows of Scafell, is 24 miles away. The small hamlet of Silecroft is situated on Cumbrias west coast, within the Lake District National Park.
