Knochendoch provides spacious family holiday accommodation set in extensive private garden grounds with panoramic views to Loch Kindar and beyond and easy access to local attractions such as the fabulous gardens at Arbigland House and Carsethorn Beach. The house nestles at the foot of Criffel one to the highest peaks in southern Scotland and there is direct access to paths leading to the summit and also the prominent Waterloo Monument that stands above the village of New Abbey.
The picturesque village of New Abbey is only a short drive, as is the county town of Dumfries which provides good shopping and recreational facilities., although only a small village, it has excellent facilities including a hotel; a tea room and several historic sites including the famous Sweetheart Abbey; a historic Corn Mill which is open to visitors and the nearby Shambellie House runs frequent photographic exhibitions. The coast is just a short drive and easily accessible at Carsethorn with excellent beaches linking along the Solway Firth to Southerness, where there are good pubs for "refreshments" and food at both Carserthorn and Sotherness.
Outdoor pursuits are well catered for in the local area including within a short drive towards Dumfries is the Forestry Commission Mabie Forest Park with extensive walks and trails and one of the main stages on the 7Stanes Mountain Bike Network. Mabie Farm Park is on the edge of the forest and has indoor and outdoor facilities for all the family. Nearby, in the other direction along the coast road that follows the Solway Firth offering a plethora of beaches is the RSPB reserve at Mersehead and Southerness with its 18 hole championship links golf course. Continuing along the coast road you drive through a recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the popular seaside villages of Kippford and Rockcliffe with it's popular sandy beach. Alternatively, just relax in the lounge taking in the spectacular views from the house.
