A real woodman's cottage set in the tranquil woodlands, wake in the morning to the symphony of birdsong and wind down at the end of the day in front of the crackling wood burner.

Over the years the intrepid and the artistic have sought solace and creative refuge in this woodland haven. Situated along a single road beside The River Usk, enjoy the best of both worlds from village amenities to rural peace and quiet. Set on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, this cottage is perfect for walking enthusiasts with breath taking landscapes to be enjoyed from riverside to mountain peak. Follow Captain's Walk and see the remains of Brecon's medieval walls or visit the South Wales Borderers Museum at Brecon Barracks. Steeped in history find some of Europe s finest surviving castles, Brecon Castle overlooking the River Usk, Abergavenny Castle set against the spectacular hills and Crickhowell Castle a prominent feature within a small market town. The estate has 2 miles of double bank fishing for 4 rods for trout or salmon booked through the Wye & Usk foundation 'Fennifach' Beat and for this reason and because fishermen value undisturbed fishing almost above all other qualities, you are asked to avoid the riverside within the estate woodland as much as possible during the fishing season (March to October inc.) and not to enter the water at all within the estate boundaries at any time.. Enjoy the best of both worlds with central heating, underfloor heating downstairs and a wood burner making the cottage warm and comfortable but still retaining a great deal of its character with exposed beams, curved walls, wooden lintels, wooden stairs and old oak floorboards upstairs. The cottage kitchen has the original flagstone floors, a Belfast sink, an electric cooker and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine and a kitchen table and chairs. The cosy living room still has the large original fireplace where the wood burner crackles, perfect to relax in front of with a DVD whilst snuggled on the sofa. The charming bathroom is downstairs and has a stylish, walk in shower and a freestanding period roll top bath. Up some fairly steep wooden stairs you reach a large landing with a single bed tucked in the corner, a room walked through to reach the master bedroom. A lovely and romantic bedroom with a king size bed, the beautiful linen and traditional furniture befits the period of the house whilst the windows peep out over the woodland. There is plenty of outside space with visitors free to explore the surrounding 200 acres of mixed woodland but subject to the request at the end of paragraph 2 above, concerning the river. There is a small terraced area for table and chairs and BBQ in a natural garden setting, perfect for indulging in a spot of outdoor dining morning, noon and night, enjoying the peace and tranquility. There is a shop, pub and restaurant 1.5 miles away. Need to know: 1 bedroom 1 king size, 1 single bed on landing area. 1 bathroom 1 bathroom (bath and separate shower) with WC. Electric cooker and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine. Wood burner (10 logs per day provided). TV with Freesat and DVD. Wi Fi not included. Small terraced area with garden furniture and BBQ in a natural garden setting. 1 dog welcome. Fishing available arranged through the Wye & Usk Foundation. Shop, pub and restaurant 1.5 miles. The final section of the driveway is a bit bumpy in places, unsuitable for low slung vehicles. The upstairs of the property is accessed via a steep wooden staircase. Please note mobile and 3G reception can be intermittent and not guranteed. Sleeps 2 1.
