Head through the entrance hall into the delightful L-shaped living/dining room, appointed with plush seating and an electric fireplace to take comfort beside after a long day of exploring the area. Exceptional views across the valley can be enjoyed from inside or via the spacious balcony with table and chairs, complemented perfectly by some alfresco dining. Move into the well-equipped kitchen to find all your culinary essentials, including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and even a dishwasher, so you won’t have to lift a finger when washing up! Stairs from the entrance hall lead down to the cosy ‘folk art’ sitting room where you can enjoy a tranquil setting for a movie night or an afternoon of reading. As the evening draws to a close, choose the master bedroom to get some sleep, with pitched roofing and large windows to make the most of the setting, along with an en-suite shower room for convenience, whilst there is a smaller double and a well-appointed twin room for children. Furnishings throughout offer a high degree of comfort with personal touches aided by the inclusion of a number of pieces hand painted by the owner - who was a local artist. Step outside and relish in the large garden, surrounded by specimen shrubs with seasonal colour and enjoying unimpeded glorious views across the valley. Take a seat at the picnic bench to enjoy your coffee before heading into Grasmere to shop the ingredients for a hearty breakfast. Walkers will take delight in exploring the local area, with scenic rambles direct from the door towards Helm Crag, Fairfield, Helvellyn and around Grasmere Lake, with amazing scenery that inspired poets and artists for hundreds of years. Literary lovers will enjoy a visit to Rydal Mount, the former home of William Wordsworth and his family, where you will find displays of his work and portraits. Further exploration of the Lakelands is encouraged, with day trips to Bowness, Ambleside and Keswick all being good options. With plenty to keep you busy, return to Le Tholonet for an evening relaxation beside the fire.
Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
