Jasmine Cottage is perfect for those wanting a family holiday in a peaceful countryside location in the stunning South West of Scotland. The cottage, part of Drummuir Farm, a working farm and home to Drummuir Farm Ice Cream Parlour, has stunning views across fields and open countryside.
If you can break away from the ice creams then you will have to decide between all the local activities that are on offer. South West Scotland is one of Scotland’s leading destinations for outside activities. These include mountain bike trails, hill walking, forest and coastal walks not forgetting fabulous dark sky star gazing. What ever your interest you will be able to immerse yourself in the wildlife and stunning natural scenery of the area, not to be missed are the Wild Foul reserves at Caerlaverock and Mersehead. The reserves and local area are home to many thousands of wintering geese, so many so that when a flock takes to the air the sky almost goes dark! The reserves are also open in the summer months for toad and badger watching together with country rambles.
Dumfries is the Capital of South West Scotland and as you would expect the town has many historic sites as does the local area. Within the town you can explore the ancient Castle Dykes park with pleasant walks linking to river side paths on the Nith. Whilst more modern history and culture can be appreciated by following the Robert Burns trail around the town. Further along the River Nith, but still in Dumfries itself is Moat Brae, inspiration behind the children's classic Peter Pan by J M Barrie. Recently renovated and opened to the public the house is a museum and national centre for children's literature, with an educational discovery garden featuring a tea room and art installations. The breadth of Scotland’s history can be discovered with visits to sites such as Caerlaverock Castle, Sweetheart Abbey, Drumlanrig Castle, the more modern “Multiverse” at Crawick and for Rabbie Burns, a visit to his Ellisland Farm is well worthwhile, where you can also enjoy a peaceful riverside stroll.
So take your pick of all there is to do in Dumfries and Galloway, be it walking, cycling, fishing, mountain biking and golf, as well as exploring the beautiful Solway Coast. All easily accessible from Jasmine Cottage.
