There are numerous opportunities for walking and cycling, including a climb to the top of the nearby Black Combe for breathtaking views. A short drive to the north is Muncaster Castle with beautiful gardens and the headquarters of the World Owl Trust. Take a day trip on the popular ‘La’al Ratty’, the miniature steam railway at Ravenglass. Millom, 8 miles away, has a wide sandy beach with rocks, Coniston Water is a 40-minute drive, the historic port and marina of Whitehaven has a variety of shops, restaurants, museums and water sports, all within a short drive. Shop and pub 3 miles, restaurant 8 miles.
