The historic village of Stratton is just ¼ mile with its lovely church, attractive inns and village shop. Bude, 2 miles, sits dramatically, perched high on the North Cornish Coast. It is incredibly popular year-round and yet manages to retain its Victorian charm whilst offering something for everyone and has an excellent selection of shops and restaurants, many offering local seafood. Water sports enthusiasts will find some of the best surfing waters in Europe nearby, while the golden sands at Widemouth Bay and Crackington Haven (with its rock pools) are ideal for a fun family day out. Walkers, too, are well catered for; gentle strolls can be enjoyed along the towpath of Bude’s canal, which, with its bird hide, attracts all manner of wildlife, while more exhilarating walks can be taken along the spectacular coastal path which winds along high cliffs and includes many lovely, dog-friendly beaches and hidden coves. The Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club (one of Cornwall’s finest) is close by, along with bowling, an indoor ‘Splash’ pool and seawater-fed outdoor pool.
