Fort William is known as the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’ and from here you can catch the Jacobite Steam Train, crossing the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, or ride on the gondola up Aonach Mor for magnificent views. Oban, a small harbour town, is the ‘Gateway to the Isles’ with regular ferries to the Inner Isles, including Mull and Iona. Cross to the islands on the Corran ferry to explore the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, the most westerly point in Britain, or head for Mallaig to catch the Armadale ferry to the Isle of Skye. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are a variety of activities including cycling, kayaking, golf, horse riding and fishing. Glencoe and Fort William both have ski resorts and are also very popular areas for climbers and walkers.
