The area has been awarded UK National Park Dark Sky status and there are two purpose built observatories at Kielder, as well as one about a mile from the cottage. Northumberland, with its National Park, is just a few miles away from the cottage. Hadrian’s Wall is on your doorstep, and a visit to Vindolanda is a must, where you can watch the archaeologists excavating, or visit the museum to see the famous writing tablets.
