Maen Llwyd takes its name after the grey stone in the garden of this impressive detached property located on the edge of the small village of Llanyre in Powys. The owners who live in an adjacent cottage have created a contemporary and luxurious home, with its own private driveway and a fully enclosed spacious garden. When you enter Maen Llwyd you will discover a light and airy environment with plenty of space for families or groups of friends. The sleek and contemporary kitchen/dining room is the perfect place for sociable cooking and eating. The triple aspect living room has been comfortably arranged around an imposing fireplace with wood burner, although the efficient air source heat pump and under floor central heating will keep you warm, whatever the weather outside. All bedrooms are equipped with hairdryers and toiletries are provided. Just a stone’s throw from the house you will find the attractive village pub with a contemporary restaurant using locally sourced produce. When you feel the need for exercise there’s a cycle path on your doorstep and a park to enjoy. This is the ideal central location from which to explore a variety of visitor attractions and places of interest. Llanyre village lies in the Upper Wye Valley, 1½ miles to the west of the town of Llandrindod Wells, or ‘Landod’ as it is known to the locals. The town owes its origins to the spring waters that were recognised to have healing properties, and it was the Romans who first took advantage of this, but it was the Victorians who made their mark here. This heritage is paid tribute to by an annual festival when the town is transformed into a Dickensian wonderland for one week every August. Being a largely rural area, with outstanding natural beauty this region is known for its walking and fishing opportunities you have easy access to the magnificent Elan Valley and dams and the spectacular Brecon Beacons National Park. Alternatively, pay a visit to Rhayader with a red kite feeding station and Welsh Royal Crystal workshops; Builth Wells, with the Royal Welsh Showground, a venue to year-round events and another historical ‘spa’ town; Brecon, home of the annual August jazz festival, Brecon cathedral and castle, the Gaer Roman Fort, and The Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh; the ‘book town’ of Hay-on-Wye, home to the famous festival; Llanwrtyd Wells, venue for the world-famous man vs horse race and bog snorkelling; and Knighton with the Offa’s Dyke Centre.
