Low Nest Barn is adjacent to the owner’s home and has been tastefully converted to a good standard, offering accommodation with panoramic views over what is thought to be, one of the last undiscovered wildernesses of Britain. The barn is accessed by a rough track and lies a mile or so beyond the outskirts of Alston, on the borders of Northumbria and Cumbria, and central in the North Pennines, which is classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Wildlife is in abundance, and red squirrels and many species of birds can be seen from the barn. Enjoy a scenic ride through the beautiful South Tyne valley from Alston station on the South Tynedale railway, with vintage steam or diesel locomotives. Alston is said to be England’s highest market town. Fishing, riding and golf are available nearby. Follow some of the local rambles or the Pennine Way. The glorious coast and countryside of Northumbria is within travelling distance, as are the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Scottish Borders. There are water sports at Talkin and Kielder Water. Gateshead is only an hour away, with a large shopping centre, restaurants and a ten screen cinema. Alternatively, just stay home and relax and eat together with family and friends. It is set in a garden, bordered by mature trees, with panoramic views over green fields and wild fells. The town has a quaint cobbled street with public houses, butchers, bakers and even its own candlemaker. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
