New Luce is a conservation village, a single street of 18th and 19th-century cottages set in an area of Dumfries and Galloway that’s ideal for a relaxing holiday on the moors of Wigtownshire, which gives New Luce that special charm. The first thing you will notice about this small corner of south west Scotland is its striking natural beauty – from the rocky and sandy coastline looking out far across the sea, to the lush green forests and the rolling hills inland. Just a mile from the village is the Southern Upland Way, a coast to coast walk that stretches some 212 miles from Portpatrick in the west to Cockburnspath in the east. The area is rich in native wildlife, with red deer, ospreys and red kites to name but a few. Visit the many beautiful gardens in the area that are blessed with a warm climate thanks to the Gulf Stream, and there are also a number of fascinating museums nearby. Galloway Forest Park is a huge natural wonderland of forested glens, lochs and towering hills which, due to its small number of buildings and hence very little amount of light pollution, was the very first national park in the UK to be honoured with Dark Sky Park status. The forest park and nearby Dalbeattie Forest also offer a chance for more adventurous holidaymakers to get their blood pumping with its 7 Stanes mountain biking trail centres. Beach 5 miles. Shop 200 yards, pub and restaurant 5¾ miles. Rosehearty can be booked together with Tha Butchach (UK5167) to accommodate up to 7 guests. Free WiFi
