Set only a few minutes’ walk from the town centre and harbour in the popular small fishing town of Amble where you will find a great selection of pubs, restaurants, fish and chip shops and tea rooms, perfect if you fancy a drink and meal in one of the seafood restaurants. There is also a popular Sunday morning market and a little pod shopping area by the harbour. You can take a boat trip over to Coquet Island to see the RSPB bird sanctuary. The picture postcard village of Warkworth with its hillside castle and selection of cafés and pubs with a couple of bespoke small shops, is around a 1½ mile walk but parking is free in this pretty village. A few miles further takes you to Alnwick with the majestic castle featured in Downton Abbey and used as part of Hogwarts in Harry Potter. The Duchess Water Gardens with spectacular grand cascade and the world’s largest treehouse restaurant should not be missed. Amble is set on the edge of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Heritage Coastline with miles of golden beaches and unspoilt coastline with plenty of cycle and foot paths.
