Built in 1864 to impress all that saw it, Middleton Gate House is approached through a 45ft high grand arch, formerly the entrance to Middleton Hall and set in private grounds of 3.5 acres. The Gate House is an extremely attractive detached stone built lodge steeped in history. The accommodation is mainly on ground floor level and is exceptionally presented throughout. The sun room at the entrance offers a relaxing spot overlooking open rural views, whilst the large kitchen/dining room enjoys a homely ambience. The separate living room benefits from a welcoming wood burner ensuring Middleton Gate House provides a cosy retreat, regardless of the season. The views from the first floor stretch across to the sea with Lindisfarne Castle on the horizon. Well tended grounds offer grass, woodland and a stream, and boast spectacular views to the sea, the Farne Islands, Lindisfarne, Budle Bay and other lovely countryside. Middleton Gate House is situated just over a mile from the friendly village of Belford where a warm welcome greets visitors. The village is often described as ‘the Gateway to the Secret Kingdom’ and offers many shops, a tea room, pubs serving delicious food, and an impressive golf driving range. There are also a variety of facilities available nearby including riding stables, a dog day care and kennels. The ‘picture postcard’ coastal village of Bamburgh, which is dominated by its majestic fortress and wide expanse of golden, sandy sweeping beach, is a mere 6 miles east. The small and friendly market town of Wooler sits at the foot of the Cheviot Hills 12 miles west and is a popular destination for those who enjoy cycling, hang-gliding, golf and horse riding. For walkers, the challenging route of the ‘St Cuthbert’s Way’ runs close by. Chatton Trout Fishery invites amateur anglers to fish in a picturesque 4-acre lake close by. Although Middleton is quietly situated, the A1 is less than a mile away, giving easy access to the elegant Georgian town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which straddles the salmon-rich River Tweed to the north and the cobbled, market town of Alnwick (protected by its dramatic castle) to the south.
