Killearn Cottage is a traditional fisherman’s cottage situated in the heart of the pretty seaboard village of Portmahomack. Built of local stone, this beautifully renovated, semi-detached cottage enjoys outstanding views from its elevated position over the Dornoch Firth and the Sutherland hills. It is just steps away from the stunning sandy bay and the charming seaside harbour. Killearn Cottage has been lovingly extended and modernised in recent times, and provides bright and spacious accommodation for up to six guests. The large living room leads through to a separate dining room and kitchen, which open onto a sunny and sheltered patio, ideal for al fresco dining. This gives access to the attractive, fully enclosed lawned garden with shrubs and trees. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped, with all the amenities you would expect for a large family home. There are three generously proportioned bedrooms, all charmingly presented, with a specific Highland theme. The family sized bathroom on the ground floor and second shower room upstairs, makes this an ideal cottage for two couples or a family holiday. Situated in a quiet lane in the centre of this pretty fishing village, the cottage enjoys excellent amenities all within a short walk, including a village shop and post office, pubs, restaurant, café and even its own golf course. Nearby stands Tarbat Ness Lighthouse, Scotland’s tallest functioning light. The beach is superb, with stunning views to the Sutherland mountains beyond, and the owners even provide beach towels for guests. The small fishing harbour has a pier and variety of small local craft. If you are lucky, you can even watch dolphins frolic just off the beach. Portmahomack boasts the lowest rainfall figures in all of Scotland. Within a 10-minute drive lies the oldest Royal Burgh of Scotland. Predominantly built of local mellow sandstone, Tain is a charming historic town and offers an excellent selection of small shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs, as well as a wide variety of sporting and recreational facilities including tennis courts, public gardens, golf club and bowling club, all of which are available to visitors. It is ideally located for exploring the whole of the Highland region, and lies on the now famous North Coast 500. Nearby places of interest include the Glenmorangie distillery, the famous Falls of Shin, one of the few places to see salmon leaping close to hand, and the enchanting town of Dornoch, with its magnificent cathedral, sandy beach and championship golf course.
