At the other end of the line is the iconic, fairytale, moated Castle Bodiam, which has changed little in 600 years. Enjoy a lazy summer afternoon soaking up the tranquillity of the River Rother and hire a rowing boat, glide effortlessly past the reed beds and spot a kingfisher or heron. The romantic recreation of a medieval manor house at Great Dixter, and its beautiful gardens, are worth a visit.
