The park has also been awarded the status of one of only four Dark Sky Parks in the western world and when the sun sets, enthusiasts come to wonder at the universe revealed above. Dalmellington at the far end of the park is home to the Scottish Dark Observatory. For the outdoor enthusiast, Galloway offers hill walking, mountain biking and water sports, with many renowned gardens and ancient woodland to explore with a chance to glimpse the abundant wildlife.
