Cata Sand Cottage is nestled within its own farmstead with views across Cata Sand to the dunes, it’s an awe-inspiring spot. The cottage is made up of the original 19th century croft house and adjoining barn, as well as a couple of small extensions, one of which is a stunning timber clad sun room. Entering the property you have a porch area with space for boots and coats, ideal for your return home from exploring your beautiful surroundings. The fantastic kitchen/dining room has many differently sized windows, which let an enormous amount of light in and the finish of the interior is of a high standard. The sun room is south facing and triple-aspect with floor to ceiling windows, the perfect place to read and watch the birds go about their business across Cata Sand. The cottage is on the edge of Lady Village in the centre of the island, and it has a brilliant little community shop with coffee shop, and a very interesting heritage centre. The island has been occupied since Neolithic times, with the nearby Quoyness chambered cairn dating back to 2900BC. There are many Bronze Age sites across Sanday, as well as Iron Age and more recent layers of history. It’s a very popular archaeological destination for academics and tourists alike. Sanday, as you would expect from the name, is surrounded by many magnificent sandy beaches and from the cottage you are only 500 yards away from Cata Sand, a huge expanse of beach at high tide. There are many other interesting walks on Sanday, exploring other beaches and bays, and a local favourite to the striking Start Point lighthouse at the eastern end of the island. Those partial to a round of golf will notice the unusual Sanday Golf Club enroute to the lighthouse. Fishing is also an enjoyable pastime on the island. As well as many types of sea fishing, there are three lochs that you can enjoy fly fishing for brown trout. All lochs are free to fish, permission is just required from the landowner, and this can be arranged through the owner. Beach ½ mile. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 2 miles. Free WiFi
