In the small hamlet of Adversane, 330 yards from the River Arun and just outside the South Downs National Park, Adversane Cottage is believed to be the old laundry to Adversane House which was built around 1750. This detached cottage is accessed via wooden, electric gates through a shared driveway within the owners’ grounds. Ideally placed for walkers, road or off road cyclists (bridle paths accessible from the cottage), horse riders (numerous local equestrian centres), fisherman, kayakers (bring your own canoe) and those simply wanting to reconnect with nature! The area is full of history and Stane Street, now the A29, is an old Roman road. Take a trip to Bignor Roman Villa, with its world-class mosaic floors, which is just a short drive away. Step back in time when life went at a much more leisurely pace and stroll along the towpath beside the Arun and Wey Canal, and see some of the prettiest scenery in the south of England, or alternatively hire a boat. If you have your own canoe there is a public slipway at Pulborough. Point to Point takes place at Horsham and Parham, or enjoy world class polo at Cowdray Park. Bring your hat and picnic, and have a flutter at a Goodwood horse race meeting or dress up vintage style for the Goodwood Revival. The Goodwood Festival of Speed is not to be missed either. Arundel Castle, Chichester Cathedral and Petworth House (National Trust) are all a short drive away. Try some of the award-winning wines at nearby vineyards or have a local beer at Jodie Kidd’s pub in Kirkford. The beaches at Worthing and Littlehampton are a half hour drive, or it is a 45-minute drive to the renowned sandy beaches of the Witterings. For a family day out with rides and attractions, try Fishers Farm Park (5 minutes) or Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre (15 minutes). Good connections nearby to Gatwick and London. Beach 16 miles.
