Kyle is ideally placed for exploring some of the most spectacular scenery in the west Highlands and also many of the picturesque villages such as Plockton, Glenelg, Applecross and further north to Gairloch and Ullapool. Cliff Cottage is only a few minutes away by car from the bridge over to the enigmatic Isle of Skye. The surrounding area and Skye is an outdoor enthusiasts paradise with so many activities available including hill and mountain climbing in the magnificent Cuillins and the Five Sisters of Kintail, a wide range of watersports including fishing and sightseeing boat trips, kayaking and sailing in the waters surrounding the area and mountain biking trails for all levels of expertise. Skye and the west coast have many interesting historical sites such as Dunvegan Castle and gardens and also the stunning Eilean Donan Castle located on the edge of the village of Dornie – Eilean Donan is reputed to be one of the most photographed castles in the UK. Take a trip up the ‘Pass of the Cattle’ leading to the lovely village of Applecross where you can take in the dramatic scenery on offer. There is a large network of National Trust nature trails around the area where you can take a leisurely stroll or take your bike out on them and perhaps catch sight of the wide range of wildlife, flora and fauna - an exhilarating experience! A must do is a visit to the Bright Water visitor centre in nearby Kyleakin & Eilean Ban, and White Island, a 6 acre nature haven nestled below the Skye bridge where you can learn about the wealth of wildlife and natural heritage of the area and where you can visit the Gavin Maxwell museum.
