Wester Links is a holiday home in the town of Fortrose, a former Royal Burgh on the Black Isle, just north of Inverness. The house is tucked away just up from Fortrose Bay, so you’re only a couple of minutes’ walk from the sea. It’s a perfect location for families and those with dogs. The Black Isle is a nature lovers’ paradise with numerous walks in the local area. Fortrose Bay is the southern side of a spit of land that extends into the Moray Firth and has a popular sailing club. At the eastern tip of this spit is Chanonry Point. It’s marked by a lighthouse built by Alan Stevenson in 1846. From the point, you have a fantastic chance to spot bottlenose dolphins, seals and many species of bird. It is actually one of the best places in the world to watch bottlenose dolphins from the shore. The spit of land between Wester Links and Chanonry Point is host to a gem of a golf course; the links of Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club. It is the 15th oldest golf club in the world, built in 1793, and was redesigned by legendary James Braid in 1932. The club also won the award of Scotland’s Best Golfing Experience (value for money). Wester Links is only a short walk from the clubhouse and the first tee. Rosemarkie is the village on the northern side of the spit of land, and only a quarter of a mile from Wester Links. Rosemarkie’s bay has a stunning 1½ mile long sandy beach , and is ideal for families, children and dogs, with a café and tennis courts. It’s an outstanding walk from the house along the sands to the lighthouse, with sea on one side and golf links on the other. Rosemarkie, like Fortrose, has charming places to enjoy food and drink that the Black Isle is famous for. You really don’t have to leave Fortrose and Rosemarkie to have the most amazing holiday. However, if you’re exploring more of the Highlands, being based in Fortrose is a great choice. Only 15 minutes’ drive from the A9, you can be exploring different parts of the north and west Highlands in no time at all. The NC500 is your gateway to some of the best sights that Scotland, the UK and Europe have to offer. Cromarty, 20 minutes away, is a beautiful fishing village at the end of the Black Isles and has many attractions including walks, boat trips to spot the varied wildlife, and restaurant. Aviemore is further away and is the hub of the Cairngorms National Park. The Highlands offers opportunities for wildlife spotting, walking and fishing. Learnie Mountain Biking is in a forest, 4 miles away, and is very popular. For an alternative day out, visit Inverness Castle. Avoch, just 1 mile, away for dolphin spotting boat trips. Stay at Wester Links, a fantastic base in a wonderful place, but close to the roads that lead you to higher Highland ground full of myths and legends. Inverness airport is 20 miles away.
