Stable Cottage, renovated in 2021, is a semi detached cottage at West Penhill Stud Farm with thoroughbreds and miniature ponies grazing on the 75 acres of land. The farm is situated on the southern bank of the Taw/Torridge estuary on the North Devon Coastline with delightful walks from your doorstep, perfect for guests looking to enjoy a Devon beauty spot in the company of birds and wildlife. From the cottage guests can take a short walk across the fields which lead down to Fremington Quay, the South West Coast Path and the renowned Tarka Trail where you can walk, cycle or simply have a bite to eat at the café. The cottage is the ultimate luxurious coastal retreat with an open plan well-equipped kitchen, living area and dining area which is spacious and full of light. After a fun-filled day exploring North Devon, you can kick back on the plush sofa, relax and watch your favourite movie on TV. On the ground floor there is a bathroom and a bedroom with a kingsize bed which can be twin beds, giving greater flexibility and one with a single bed. On the first floor is one kingsize bedroom with en-suite facilities. The cottage is perfectly placed in a quiet rural location in the heart of the glorious countryside, yet is within easy reach of Barnstaple, Bideford and all the attractions of North Devon. These include some of the best beaches in the country at Woolacombe, Saunton and Westward Ho! The nearest beach is Instow, the ideal place to enjoy a sunset walk and visit the pub, café and restaurants overlooking the beach. Fremington village which is just a few minutes walk away, provides day to day amenities, including a convenience store and Post Office, local Inns, restaurants and a bus service. Fremington Quay joins a section of the Tarka Trail and the South West Coast Path which in turn provides charming walks along the estuary of the River Taw towards Barnstaple. The farm is situated right at the core of the North Devon Biosphere reserve and is fantastic for bird watching with numerous rare breeds. Guests will have expansive views from the top of the hill across RSPB’s Isley Marsh Reserve, Fremington Nature Reserve, the Gaia Trust and the surrounding farmland. Use of totally private bird watching benches and stations above the top of the tributary from the River Taw that runs up to Penhill Quay can also be arranged by contacting the owners. Private access can be arranged from within the farm. Also available is access to a totally private and exclusive fully fenced 16-acre wooded valley that runs up from Fremington towards Little Knightacott Farm approximately 1¾ miles from Stable Cottage. It has gated, secure, on-site parking, wildlife ponds and private picnic areas on the river. It is also available for exercising dogs, on request. The location is reached by road and by easy footpath access via Fremington Quay with only a short part on a road through the village. Slightly further afield, a visit to the village of Clovelly and Hartland Quay will certainly provide you with some spectacular views of the coastline. There is walking for all abilities on Exmoor, and for those looking for something a little more challenging, why not try some of the South West Coast Path sections around Lynton and Lynmouth. For those visiting with young children, a day out to the Big Sheep, Milky Way or Combe Martin Wildlife Park will certainly give the youngsters something to smile about. With beautiful surroundings, Stable Cottage is the perfect choice for a truly memorable family holiday.
