Built in 1857, the house was a former residence for the head teacher at the local church school. This characterful property is furnished to a high standard with all modern amenities, and the attention to detail is superb. There is an open-plan dining room which flows through to the well-equipped kitchen and breakfast room, leading out through the French doors to a delightful private courtyard and wonderful sun trap. The courtyard boasts a barbecue with a pizza oven, where you can enjoy homemade pizzas for a truly memorable evening. There is a separate living room with seating around the gas wood burner, ideal for winding down in an evening. The ground floor is completed with a modern shower room. Upstairs is a twin bedroom, a kingsize bedroom and an additional shower room. The Old School House is bursting with character. The house is next to the grounds of the 17th-century rectory and behind St Peter and St Paul’s church, famed for its collection of medieval wall paintings. The ancient market town of Pickering is situated within the region known as Ryedale, one of the prettiest areas in North Yorkshire. The market towns of Helmsley, Thirsk and Malton are just a short drive away, and in less than an hour you can be in the wonderful city of York. Pickering is famous for the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway that travels from Pickering across the North Yorkshire Moors National Park to Whitby, stopping off at Grosmont and Goathland, a wonderful train journey that is very popular with all visitors. There are plenty of restaurants, shops and local pubs all within a short stroll as well as the Beck Isle Museum and the castle. For the children you are just 5 miles from Flamingo Land, a fantastic theme park and zoo, and for the adults the wonderful stately home of Castle Howard is just a 15-minute drive away. The Dalby Forest is to the north of Pickering with over 8,000 acres of forest with woodland trails and mountain bike trails as well as a visitors’ centre and café. Explore the pathways and spot the deer and wonderful nature that surrounds you. For those of you who love the great outdoors the walks around this area are fantastic.
