Hewelsfield is a quiet location surrounded by beautiful countryside and perfectly located to enjoy scenic walks and cycle routes within the Forest of Dean. The Royal Forest of Dean lies nearby and was once a Saxon hunting ground, although today it attracts nature lovers and outdoors enthusiasts from across the country, as well as artists and photographers, who come to capture the beauty of one of England’s last remaining Royal forests. It also provides a good base for those who enjoy fishing or kayaking as it is within easy distance of the Wye. Be sure to take a river cruise on the Severn or maybe visit Clearwell Caves, home to an iron mining museum where there are a network of underground caverns dating back to the Bronze Age.
