This historic house is one of the oldest in the town, and was probably built by a prosperous baker who almost certainly baked in Salty House (next door). Two doors down you can find Keats’ House, where he stayed in the winter of 1817. Steeped in history, it retains much of its charm and character, and is just a stones throw from shops, cafes and pubs, crazy golf, a play park as well as a water sports hire centre (classes available) dive school and fishing trips in season. The property is decorated with a Christmas theme dring the festive period. Teignmouth also has a port and large ships enter on the high tide, escorted by a pilot boat. Listen out for the horn to tell you they are entering the harbour - it is quite a spectacle to watch! The ancient village of Shaldon, across the estuary, is a 3-minute ferry ride from the Back Beach, where you can take a short walk up to the lovely pub, and see the Ness beach accessed only through the long ‘smugglers passage’ cut through the cliff, or visit the child-friendly, award-winning Shaldon Zoo, featuring mainly monkeys and some other small mammals. There is easy access to a host of other attractions within 30 minutes, including the historic city of Exeter, on a trip following the coast and River Exe, renowned for being one of the most scenic in the UK. Teignmouth is on the south coastal path for walkers, one thing is for sure you will not be short of things to see and do here! Free WiFi
