Barn owls, kingfishers and herds of deer are regular sights, but you can also see grass snakes, badgers, foxes and no end of bird species, some quite rare. On clear winter nights you’ll be astonished by the dark sky, which provides a fantastic view of stars which can’t be seen in other parts of the UK, due to light pollution. There are lovely country, woodland and coastal walks and for cycling enthusiasts, the nearby Tarka Trail is not to be missed, and Dartmoor National Park is a must for nature lovers.
