It is only a couple of minutes’ walk to the promenade which fronts the sandy beach, so don’t forget to bring your bucket and spade! On the promenade you will find a putting green and crazy golf course, as well as a café and children’s playground. In the town of Tywyn, again a short walk, there are two supermarkets and a good range of individual shops, as well as a swimming pool and a lovely independent cinema showing the latest film releases. Nowadays, the beautifully restored steam trains take you on a magical journey along the Fathew Valley to the waterfalls at Dolgoch and Nant Gwernol. There is also a fascinating museum and tearoom on the station at Tywyn. No visit to Tywyn could be complete without a visit to the honey ice cream shop – a tasty treat whatever the weather! From Gwynt y Môr it’s only 4 miles to the pretty village of Aberdyfi, the brightly painted houses of which seem to cling to the shoreline! Here you will find some friendly seaside pubs and restaurants, and a favourite pastime for children is to try crabbing off the jetty. To the north is the village of Llwyngwril, famous for its annual Yarnbombing Festival, and Barmouth, start of the Mawddach Trail walk and cyclepath, which passes over Barmouth Bridge and follows the trackbed of the old railway line along the Mawddach Estuary 9 miles to Dolgellau.
