Popular with families and dog walkers, the Cumbrian Coastal Way passes through the village, and walkers can enjoy many miles of green sea banks. Mawbray beach, 2 miles north, is backed by undulating sand dunes whilst birdwatchers and nature lovers should head to the RSPB reserve at Campfield Marsh, 20 miles away. Cyclists can head to the mountain bike trails at Whinlatter (16 miles), or road cyclists can challenge themselves on the Newlands and Whinlatter passes. Urbanites can find some retail therapy at the market town of Cockermouth has plenty of independent and outdoor shops to explore, as well as a great choice of cafes, pubs and restaurants to refuel.
