Just six miles away is Coniston with lake and water activities, such as the cruises on the lake and sailing while those wanting a good hike can try the challenging the classic Coniston Fells walk to the Old Man of Coniston with its superb vistas across the lakes. Locally, you can also hike up Stickle Pike fell or a little further north west you can also discover Wast Water Lake, often described as one the favourite and most beautiful views in the UK. Towards the coast, just a short drive away, is the festival and town of Ulverston with its museum of Laurel and Hardy for a different day out. Dating back to the 11th century, Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water.
