Hong Kong House in Tomintoul

Hong Kong House was built by James McGregor Forbes towards the end of the 19th century. Before returning to Scotland, he worked as a banker in Hong Kong, and named the house Hong Kong House for this very reason.

This house offers a warm and welcoming stay, close to the high street of Tomintoul, with local amenities right on your doorstep. Ideal for a family of four, or extra guests, this accommodation has everything you need to feel right at home. Upon entering you will arrive at a sitting room, boasting leather sofas (opening out to provide an additional sofa bed if required) and a wood burner which is tucked into a charming fireplace. You will look forward to returning home after a long day, reflecting on your outings, and enjoying a night in amongst the warmth, overlooking views of the high street. The modern kitchen offers a pleasant environment to try your hand at some baking, or simply prepare breakfast in the morning, before resting at the dining table. Doors open out to the enclosed rear garden so you can enjoy the landscape from inside, or step out to the scenery for some fresh air throughout the day. The shower room is ideally placed for getting ready ahead of a busy afternoon, with a walk-in shower to suit all. On the second floor you will find a bunk bed room, an ideal arrangement for children to watch DVDs in comfort, before sleeping. A double bedroom is neutrally decorated and promises a peaceful sleep each night that goes by. Lastly, the family bathroom is suitable for everyone to make use of, with a bath and shower over and white fittings that present a fresh and clean image. Outside is where you will want to be when the weather is nice; relaxing in the enclosed garden, which has bordering flower beds. With more to see, Tomintoul offers several shops, cafe's and pubs, a local store and a good quality restaurant, situated on the main road between Royal Deeside and the Highlands. From the renowned Whisky and Castle trails, mountain biking at the Glenlivet bike trails and fishing, to walks along the Speyside trail, you will be spoilt for choice all year round.

The village of Tomintoul is located on the main road that joins Royal Deeside to the Highlands, so if you're planning on exploring the surrounding area Tomintoul is a great place to call home for a week or so. As well as holding the prestigious title of the highest village anywhere in the Scottish Highlands, Tomintoul also has a surprisingly large amount of shops, pubs and places to eat. There's something for everyone at this high altitude location.
